Introduction
Fuzhuan Tea, one of China's renowned dark teas, originates from Jingyang County in Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province. Known as "brick tea," it was traditionally compressed into brick-like shapes for easier transport along ancient trade routes. Fuzhuan Tea is a post-fermented and fully fermented tea, initially made to cater to the needs of nomadic peoples in the northwest, such as in Kazakhstan and Mongolia. The name "Fuzhuan" comes from its production during the hot summer days (伏天) and its effects similar to Rhizoma Smilacis Glabrae (土茯苓). The tea's brick-like appearance post-steaming and compression gives it the name "Fuzhuan Brick Tea." Today, besides Shaanxi's Jingyang, major production areas include Yiyang in Hunan Province. In terms of taste, Fuzhuan Tea offers a rich, mellow flavor with a smooth, slightly sweet aftertaste. The dark, full-bodied liquor provides a comforting warmth, especially appreciated in colder climates. The tea's earthy and robust characteristics make it a unique experience for the palate, distinguishing it from other dark teas.
